چکیده

We solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for four-dimensional Einstein gravity as an expansion in powers of the Planck mass by means of a heat kernel regularization. Our results suggest that in the universe with a very small radius or with a very large curvature beyond a Planck scale expectation values of operators are reduced to calculations in a path integral representation of three-dimensional Einstein gravity. 1 Work supported by the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (No.30183817). 2 E-mail address: [email protected] 3 E-mail address: [email protected] 4 E-mail address: [email protected] As the evolution of the universe is followed backwards in time, we would expect quantum gravitational effects to become important. Nonperturbative effects would drastically change the notion of space-time beyond the Planck scale and invalidate perturbative calculations around a fixed background metric. Quantum geometrodynamics based on the Wheeler-DeWitt equation [1] is a natural framework which may answer the question of quantum space-time structure at the early stage of the universe. A lot of work has been done along this line and various interesting results have been obtained [1]-[5]. However, in contrast with its grand motivation, most of studies have been devoted on simple minisuperspace models in the semiclassical approximation. Short distance physics beyond the Planck scale is not still uncovered. In this paper, we propose a new approximation scheme to solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation and discuss physical meanings of the wave function of the universe to leading order. Our results may suggest that beyond the Planck scale dimensional reduction of four-dimensional Einstein gravity occurs and a new phase appears. The (unregulated) Wheeler-DeWitt equation without matter is [ − mp Gijkl(x) δ δhkl(x) δ δhij(x) + mp 16π √

Strong coupling quantum gravity and physics beyond the Planck scale.

We propose a renormalization prescription for the Wheeler-DeWitt equation of (3+1)-dimensional Einstein gravity and also propose a strong coupling expansion as an approximation scheme to probe quantum geometry at length scales much smaller than the Planck length. We solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation to the second order in the expansion in a class of local solutions and discuss problems arising ...

Spontaneous Dimensional Reduction in Short-Distance Quantum Gravity?

Several lines of evidence suggest that quantum gravity at very short distances may behave effectively as a two-dimensional theory. I summarize these hints, and offer an additional argument based on the strong-coupling limit of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. The resulting scenario suggests a novel approach to quantum gravity at the Planck scale.

Wheeler - Dewitt Equation with Variable Constants

In this paper we review the basic issues of quantum cosmological models. We explore the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in different contexts but from a dimensional point of view. We end by presenting the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in the case of considering all the constants varying. The quantum potential is obtained and the tunneling probability is studied.

Two-Component Formulation of the Wheeler-DeWitt Equation

The Wheeler-DeWitt equation for the minimally coupled FRW-massive-scalar-field minisuperspace is written as a two-component Schrödinger equation with an explicitly ‘time’dependent Hamiltonian. This reduces the solution of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation to the eigenvalue problem for a non-relativistic one-dimensional harmonic oscillator and an infinite series of trivial algebraic equations whose it...

Planck scale inflationary spectra from quantum gravity

We derive the semiclassical evolution of massless minimally coupled scalar matter in the de Sitter space-time from the Born-Oppenheimer reduction of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. We show that the dynamics of trans-Planckian modes can be cast in the form of an effective modified dispersion relation and that high energy corrections in the power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background radiation...
